India’s automotive market is heading into a particularly busy period, with several important new cars and major updates scheduled to arrive in August 2026. From a refreshed mid-size sedan and a long-wheelbase luxury SUV to new electric models and Mahindra’s Independence Day showcases, the next few weeks could bring plenty of action for Indian car buyers.
Among the biggest launches are the Skoda Slavia facelift, BMW X1 Long Wheelbase, JSW MG Motor India’s Hector Hawk and the third-generation Audi Q3. Volvo is also preparing to introduce its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, while Mahindra is expected to showcase multiple new products around the Independence Day weekend.
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming launches.
1. Skoda Slavia Facelift – August 18
The first major launch of this busy period will be the Skoda Slavia facelift, scheduled for August 18, 2026.
The updated Slavia will receive a number of styling changes while retaining the overall design and proportions of the current sedan. The front-end updates are expected to include revised LED headlamps, a redesigned grille and updated bumpers. The rear could also receive revised tail lamps and other subtle styling changes.
Inside, Skoda is expected to focus on improving the sedan’s premium appeal. One of the biggest potential additions is a rear-seat massage function, similar to the feature introduced with the updated Kushaq.
The Slavia is also expected to receive a larger digital driver’s display, while the existing infotainment system and other comfort features are likely to continue.
New automatic gearbox
One of the most significant changes could be mechanical. The 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine is expected to replace its existing six-speed automatic with a smoother eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The 1.5-litre TSI engine is expected to continue with the seven-speed DSG automatic.
The Slavia facelift will continue to compete with the Volkswagen Virtus, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
2. BMW X1 Long Wheelbase – August 21
BMW is preparing to launch the X1 Long Wheelbase in India on August 21.
Unlike the standard X1, this version is designed primarily to provide greater space for rear passengers. The longer wheelbase should result in noticeably better legroom and make the SUV more comfortable for families.
The long-wheelbase version follows the growing demand for spacious luxury vehicles in India, where rear-seat comfort is an important consideration even among premium SUV buyers.
The petrol-powered X1 LWB is also expected to receive a more powerful and torquey engine compared with the standard version, potentially giving it stronger performance while maintaining the practicality of the X1.
BMW has already opened pre-launch bookings for the X1 LWB in India, making its August 21 launch particularly significant for the premium SUV segment.
3. JSW MG Motor India Hector Hawk – August 24
JSW MG Motor India is expected to introduce another major product on August 24 in the form of the Hector Hawk.
The model is based on a globally sold SUV platform and is expected to bring a strong focus on electrification. MG is likely to introduce the fully electric version first, with a plug-in hybrid version potentially following later.
The EV is claimed to offer a range of more than 500 km on a single charge, while the plug-in hybrid version could offer a combined range exceeding 1,000 km.
MG has also trademarked the name Hector Hawk Plus, raising the possibility of different seating configurations, including potentially a larger three-row version.
If introduced at the right price, the Hector Hawk could give MG a fresh product to compete in India’s increasingly competitive premium SUV market.
4. Audi Q3 – Third Generation
Audi is also preparing to bring the third-generation Q3 to India.
The new Q3 represents a substantial step forward in terms of design and technology. The exterior gets a more modern appearance, with redesigned lighting elements and Audi’s latest-generation styling.
The new Matrix LED headlamps are expected to be one of the highlights, while the lighting signatures can offer a more distinctive appearance.
High-tech interior
The biggest transformation takes place inside the cabin.
The Q3 gets a large curved display setup combining a 12-inch digital driver’s display with a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system is based on an Android operating system and is designed to provide a more connected and technology-focused cabin.
For India, Audi is expected to introduce the Q3 with a petrol engine initially, as the company has moved away from diesel-powered passenger cars in the Indian market.
The new Q3 will continue to target buyers looking for a premium compact luxury SUV while competing against models from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
5. Volvo EX90 – Flagship Electric SUV
Volvo is preparing to introduce its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, in India.
Positioned as the electric counterpart to the XC90, the EX90 is considerably larger and more premium than Volvo’s smaller electric SUVs.
The EX90 follows Volvo’s minimalist design philosophy, particularly inside the cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a vertically oriented central touchscreen, while the overall interior focuses on clean design and premium materials.
Six- and seven-seat configurations
The EX90 is expected to be available in both six- and seven-seat configurations, making it a practical alternative to conventional luxury three-row SUVs.
It will also be available with different drivetrain configurations, including rear-wheel/front-wheel-drive depending on market specification and all-wheel drive on higher versions.
The SUV uses a battery pack of more than 100kWh, with an expected driving range of more than 600 km.
One of its biggest technological highlights is its ability to support extremely fast DC charging, with charging capability of up to 350kW.
The EX90 will therefore target buyers looking for a premium, spacious and technology-heavy electric SUV rather than a traditional petrol or diesel luxury vehicle.
6. Mahindra Vision S – Independence Day Showcase
Mahindra is expected to make a major announcement around the August 14–15 Independence Day weekend.
One of the vehicles that could be showcased is the production-ready version of the Vision S, a compact SUV that has already generated significant interest.
The Vision S is expected to feature a rugged, upright design with a more muscular appearance than conventional compact SUVs. Its design has been compared with a smaller version of Mahindra’s larger SUVs.
The model is expected to use Mahindra’s newer platform architecture, which could support multiple powertrains.
Depending on the final production specification, buyers could eventually get petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric versions.
Technology is also expected to be a major focus, with features such as a digital instrument cluster, large infotainment display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance systems.
The production model is expected to arrive later, potentially during 2027.
7. Mahindra BE.7 or a New BE.6 Variant
Mahindra could have another major surprise for the Independence Day weekend.
One possibility is the larger BE.7 electric SUV, which is expected to sit above the BE.6 in Mahindra’s electric SUV lineup.
Another possibility is a high-performance dual-motor version of the BE.6.
The latter could feature all-wheel drive and significantly stronger performance than the existing single-motor versions.
Triple-screen technology
One of the most interesting expected updates is a futuristic triple-screen dashboard.
Mahindra has already established a technology-focused identity with the BE.6, and a larger or more powerful version could take that approach even further.
A dual-motor setup would also make the SUV more appealing to buyers looking for stronger acceleration and all-weather traction.
Mahindra has not officially confirmed exactly which models will be showcased during the Independence Day weekend, so the final reveal could still bring a surprise.
August 2026 Could Be a Major Month for New Cars
August 2026 is shaping up to be an unusually busy month for India’s automobile industry.
