The Indian automobile market is heading into one of its busiest periods of 2026, with several major carmakers preparing new launches, showcases and updates within just 12 days.
From August 14 to August 26, buyers can expect everything from rugged SUVs and lifestyle pickup trucks to premium sedans, luxury electric SUVs and new-generation electric vehicles. Mahindra will be at the centre of the action during the Independence Day weekend, while Skoda, BMW, Audi, Volvo and JSW MG Motor India will follow with their own important launches.
Here are the nine major cars and updates expected during this busy period.
1. Mahindra Scorpio N-Based Pickup – August 14
Mahindra is expected to showcase the production version of its much-awaited lifestyle pickup truck on August 14.
Originally revealed as a concept in South Africa, the pickup is based on the Scorpio N platform but will have a considerably different design. Unlike a simple Scorpio N with a loading bed, the production pickup is expected to receive its own exterior styling and a more rugged overall appearance.
The cabin is also expected to be different, with a vertically oriented infotainment screen and a more utility-focused layout.
The pickup will feature a four-wheel-drive system, making it suitable for off-road driving, camping and other lifestyle activities. Mahindra could also introduce a more affordable 4×2 version at a later stage.
The new pickup is expected to become a more affordable alternative to lifestyle pickups such as the Toyota Hilux.
2. Mahindra BE.07 – August 15
Mahindra’s Independence Day event will also highlight the company’s expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
The BE.07 is expected to sit above the BE.06 in Mahindra’s electric SUV range. While the BE.06 has a sporty coupe-SUV design, the BE.07 will adopt a more conventional SUV body style.
This could make it attractive to buyers who want the technology and performance of a Mahindra electric SUV without the compromises associated with a sharply sloping roof.
The BE.07 is expected to use the same basic electric architecture and powertrain family as the BE.06, while offering a more practical cabin and larger SUV proportions.
3. Mahindra BE.06 Sport EQ and Updates – August 15
The BE.06 is also expected to receive important updates during Mahindra’s Independence Day showcase.
One of the biggest highlights could be a new triple-screen dashboard, giving the electric SUV an even more futuristic cabin.
Mahindra is also expected to introduce a high-performance version known as the Sport EQ. This version could bring additional performance-oriented upgrades while retaining the distinctive styling and electric architecture of the standard BE.06.
The combination of a futuristic interior and strong electric performance could make the BE.06 one of Mahindra’s most technology-focused products.
4. Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift – August 15
The iconic three-door Mahindra Thar is also expected to receive an update.
Rather than introducing a completely new generation, Mahindra is expected to give the existing Thar a facelift inspired by the newer Thar Roxx.
The changes could include a revised grille, updated headlights and redesigned bumpers. The cabin could also receive additional equipment, including features such as ventilated seats.
The overall boxy and rugged character of the Thar is expected to remain intact.
The update will allow Mahindra to keep the three-door Thar fresh while the Thar Roxx continues to target buyers looking for a larger and more family-friendly SUV.
5. Skoda Slavia Facelift – August 18
Three days after Mahindra’s Independence Day showcase, Skoda will turn attention towards the sedan segment with the updated Slavia.
The Slavia facelift is expected to receive a redesigned front grille, slimmer lighting elements and revised bumpers. The rear will also get updated tail lamps, giving the sedan a more modern appearance.
The biggest changes, however, could be inside the cabin.
The updated Slavia is expected to borrow some premium equipment from the Kushaq, including a rear-seat massage function. This would give the sedan an unusual advantage in the midsize sedan segment.
Another major change could be the gearbox. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine is expected to receive a new eight-speed automatic transmission, while the existing engine lineup is largely expected to continue.
The facelift should help the Slavia remain competitive against cars such as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Virtus.
6. Volvo EX90 – August
Volvo’s flagship electric SUV is also expected to make its Indian debut during August.
The EX90 is essentially Volvo’s all-electric alternative to the XC90 and sits at the top of the company’s electric SUV range.
The SUV features a minimalist Scandinavian cabin with a large vertically oriented central touchscreen and a premium interior designed around comfort and technology.
Internationally, the EX90 is available with advanced driver-assistance technology, although the specification offered in India could differ depending on local regulations and pricing considerations.
The Indian market is expected to receive the rear-wheel-drive version initially.
With its large battery, long driving range and premium positioning, the EX90 will target buyers looking for a luxury electric SUV rather than a conventional petrol or diesel vehicle.
7. BMW X1 Long Wheelbase – August 21
BMW is bringing the long-wheelbase formula to its petrol-powered X1 after seeing strong demand for the long-wheelbase electric iX1.
The biggest advantage of the X1 Long Wheelbase will be additional rear-seat space.
The extended wheelbase should provide substantially more knee room for rear passengers, making the compact luxury SUV more practical for buyers who frequently travel with family or chauffeurs.
The longer body will also give the X1 a stronger road presence.
With this model, BMW will be targeting buyers who want the premium experience of a luxury compact SUV but consider rear-seat comfort a priority.
8. Audi Q3 – August 25
Audi is expected to introduce the new-generation Q3 on August 25.
The new Q3 will feature Audi’s latest design language, giving the compact luxury SUV a more sophisticated and technologically advanced appearance.
The cabin will be one of its biggest highlights. The new model is expected to feature a large curved display setup combining the digital driver’s display and central infotainment screen.
The Indian-specification Q3 is expected to use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 200 horsepower. It is expected to be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The Q3 will also play an important role in Audi’s broader India strategy, with more new products expected to follow in the coming years.
9. JSW MG Motor India’s New EV and Plug-In Hybrid SUV – August 26
The final major launch in this 12-day window will come from JSW MG Motor India.
The company is preparing a new midsize SUV based on its ADAPT platform for new-energy vehicles. The model is expected to be offered in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid forms.
The electric version is expected to target a driving range of around 500 km on a single charge.
The plug-in hybrid version could be even more interesting for Indian buyers, with a claimed overall range of more than 1,000 km when combining its electric and combustion power sources.
The SUV is expected to be based on products from MG’s global portfolio and could bring a completely new design and technology package to the Indian midsize SUV segment.
The EV version is expected to arrive first, with the plug-in hybrid potentially following later.
Bonus: Kia Sorento – September 4
Although it falls outside the August 14-26 window, the Kia Sorento is another important upcoming launch worth mentioning.
The premium three-row SUV is expected to arrive in India on September 4 and will sit above Kia’s existing SUV lineup.
The Sorento will target buyers looking for a larger and more premium SUV, with strong-hybrid technology expected to be one of its biggest selling points.
Its longer wheelbase should provide generous cabin space, while the hybrid powertrain could offer significantly better fuel efficiency than conventional large SUVs.
August 2026 Could Be a Major Turning Point
The sheer number of new products arriving within such a short period shows how quickly India’s car market is evolving.
Mahindra is preparing multiple SUVs and electric vehicles, Skoda is refreshing one of its most important sedans, BMW is adding more practicality to the X1, Audi is introducing a new Q3, Volvo is entering the flagship electric SUV space and MG is preparing a new-generation EV and plug-in hybrid SUV.
For buyers, the biggest development is the growing choice between conventional petrol and diesel vehicles, hybrids and fully electric cars.
The Independence Day period will likely be dominated by Mahindra, but the following two weeks will bring products across almost every major price and vehicle segment.
With the festive season also approaching, these launches could significantly reshape the Indian automobile market during the second half of 2026.
