The Indian automotive market is entering another busy phase, with several new cars, facelifts, electric vehicles and technology updates lined up across manufacturers. Mahindra is expanding its electric portfolio, Maruti Suzuki is preparing a new compact SUV, Tata Motors could revive the iconic Nano nameplate in an electric form, while Kia, MG and BMW are also preparing important launches.

Mahindra BE 6 Sport EQ Launched With New Technology
Mahindra has introduced the new BE 6 Sport EQ, adding a more performance-focused version to its electric SUV lineup.
The BE 6 Sport EQ gets a redesigned three-screen cockpit, with the dashboard combining multiple digital displays into a more immersive layout. The SUV also features a panoramic glass roof, ventilated seats and a premium Harman audio system.
Battery options continue to include different capacities, with the larger battery offering a claimed range of up to around 683 km, depending on the variant.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of new software and performance-oriented features. Mahindra has also introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle at a lower upfront price while paying separately for battery usage.
The BE 6 Sport EQ is priced from ₹19.45 lakh with the battery, while the BaaS programme brings the starting price down to ₹11.45 lakh, with battery usage charged separately. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on August 26, 2026.
Mahindra BE 7 Launch Delayed
Mahindra’s larger BE 7 electric SUV is another important model in the company’s upcoming EV portfolio. However, its launch timeline has reportedly been pushed to next year.
The BE 7 is expected to sit above the BE 6 and adopt a more conventional SUV body style. This could make it appealing to buyers who want the technology and performance of Mahindra’s BE range without the coupe-like styling of the BE 6.
The SUV is expected to use battery packs in the 59kWh and 79kWh range, with Mahindra targeting a driving range of up to approximately 700 km.
A triple-screen dashboard is also expected to be one of its major highlights.
Mahindra Scorpio Pickup Moves Closer to Production
Mahindra has also unveiled its new Scorpio-based pickup truck, expanding the Scorpio family into the lifestyle pickup segment.
The pickup is expected to retain Mahindra’s rugged body-on-frame architecture while receiving a completely different rear section and a dedicated load bed.
Power is expected to come from Mahindra’s familiar 2.2-litre diesel engine, while a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol option could also be offered.
The pickup is expected to feature four-wheel drive, making it suitable for both commercial applications and lifestyle users looking for an off-road capable vehicle.
With an expected price below ₹20 lakh, Mahindra could position it significantly below premium lifestyle pickups such as the Toyota Hilux.
Mahindra XUV 7XO Petrol Hybrid Under Development
Mahindra is also working on a hybrid version of the XUV 7XO.
The new powertrain is being developed partly in response to stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy requirements. The hybrid system is expected to improve efficiency, particularly in city driving conditions.
While the exact specifications have not been officially revealed, the hybrid could provide a modest improvement in real-world fuel economy over the existing petrol version.
The model is expected to arrive before the end of 2026.
Mahindra Offers Discounts Across Its SUV Range

Reported benefits include discounts of up to ₹1.25 lakh on the Thar Roxx, around ₹1.5 lakh on the Scorpio, ₹75,000 on the Scorpio Classic and up to ₹50,000 on the Thar.
The Bolero and XUV 3XO are also reportedly receiving benefits of around ₹45,000 and ₹40,000 respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Y43: New Compact SUV Spotted
One of the most interesting developments from Maruti Suzuki is the appearance of an uncamouflaged compact SUV at the company’s Kharkhoda facility.
The vehicle is widely believed to be related to Maruti’s Y43 project, which is expected to fill the gap left by the discontinued Ignis and compete in the entry-level SUV segment.
The new model appears to be roughly similar in size to the Tata Punch. However, Maruti is expected to give it a distinct design rather than creating a smaller version of the Brezza.
A more muscular and upright appearance could help Maruti attract buyers who previously overlooked the Ignis and S-Presso because of their unconventional styling.
The Y43 is expected to use a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, while a smaller turbo-petrol engine could also be considered.
The vehicle is still some time away from launch, with public-road testing expected to become more visible later in 2026.
Maruti Baleno Facelift Gets Exterior and Interior Updates
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is also preparing for an update.

Could the Tata Nano Return as an EV?
Tata Motors could potentially bring back one of India’s most recognisable automotive names: the Nano.
Comments from Tata Motors’ design leadership have sparked speculation about an electric Nano. If the project moves ahead, the car could become a small and affordable urban EV designed primarily for city users.
A battery pack in the region of 17–20kWh has been suggested, with a possible claimed range of approximately 125–150 km.
However, these specifications remain speculative and Tata Motors has not officially confirmed a production Nano EV.
If launched, such a model could give Tata a much smaller and potentially more affordable EV positioned below the Tiago EV.
Tata Motors Targets More European Exports
Tata Motors is also looking at expanding its export operations.
The company is reportedly planning to increase exports to the UK and European markets from financial year 2028 onwards.
This could become increasingly important as Tata expands its electric vehicle portfolio and develops products that can meet international safety, emissions and technology requirements.
MG Tomahawk Set To Expand the Company’s EV Portfolio
JSW MG Motor India is preparing another major launch in the form of a new seven-seat SUV.
The model, now associated with the MG Tomahawk name, is based on the company’s new ADAPT architecture and is expected to launch in India as an electric vehicle first.
The company has already confirmed that its upcoming seven-seat EV will debut on August 26, 2026, with pre-bookings underway.
A plug-in hybrid version could follow later, giving MG two different electrified powertrain choices.
The EV is expected to offer a driving range of more than 500 km, making it a potentially important competitor in India’s growing premium electric SUV market.
BMW X1 Long Wheelbase Coming Soon
BMW is also preparing the X1 Long Wheelbase for the Indian market.
